Review: Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation

I thought I would write a little review, after reading Laura Living Life‘s blog reviewing Clinique’s Beyond Perfecting Foundation & Concealer, it peaked my interest. I love trying new products, especially foundations. I’m a big fan of Revlon ColourStay for Combination/ Oily Skin, so the Beyond Perfecting Foundation had a lot to live up to!

The foundation is described as a “foundation and concealer in one for a natural, beyond perfected look that lasts all day”

Clinique are currently offering a free 5 day sample for this product, but I got overly excited to try it and bought it straight out for £25.

The lady at the counter did a colour test and matched me to ‘2 Alabaster’. At first when she applied it to the skin it looked very pale, but after a few seconds the colour adapted and blended perfectly.

I couldn’t wait to try it out properly, so as soon as I got home, I removed all my makeup and reapplied using Beyond Perfecting.

The packaging is beautiful and very feminine with floral detail. The foundation itself comes in a glass bottle, with a wand applicator. Already, this has one up on Revlon ColoursStay as there is no wand, or pump!

I was very pleased with the initial results, at first I thought the foundation might be too cakey, but once blended it felt very light and refreshing on my skin. The lady in the shop recommended applying the foundation with my fingers or foundation brush. I went with brush as I’d no doubt get in trouble for leaving foundation finger prints all over the house – even after washing my hands that stuff does not come off!

The colour is great, it isn’t too pale and doesn’t wash me out and the foundation gives full coverage. I normally prefer a matte look but I really liked the dewy finish that the foundation gave. It says on the box that it gives a “natural matte finish”, but I didn’t find that this was the case.

The foundation boasts of lasting for up to 12 hours and suitable for “Dry Combination to Combination Oily/Mixte” but I found after a few hours my face would feel quite greasy. I don’t know whether it is just my hormones but I don’t usually get this with the Revlon ColourStay, I have also had to carry my beauty blender around with me to reapply/ even out the foundation throughout the day. However, my skin is awkward and so this probably isn’t the case for everyone! I have a friend who uses this foundation and says that it lasts all day for her… lucky devil!

The verdict… I will continue to use the foundation, at least until it runs out. I had high hopes for Beyond Perfecting, and as much as I love the coverage, feel and finish I don’t feel that it does everything it says it does. Lasting 12 hours being one of them!

I’m going to try using a primer and maybe a different powder on top to see if that helps, I really hope so as I think the foundation has so much potential.

I think for me, and my skin type Revlon ColourStay will always be number one, so it’s hard to find a foundation that can beat it. Unfortunately for now, Beyond Perfecting doesn’t!

What do you think of Beyond Perfecting? Have you tried it? Leave a comment below!

Love X

  1. Way to go, Jeanne! The boys have worked so hard this year and deserve the opportunity to play. Thank you, Lauren, for talking with her! We will be at Chi#2&l8i17;s and White Rose. Go Black Dog!!!

  2. Love this update- I like to try new foundations and personally prefer a dewy look. I would also recommend ‘Rimmel 25 hour stay’ foundation- great coverage/finish and only £7 (very similar to Estee Lauder which is priced at £29)!

  3. I tried a sample of this a couple of weeks ago. I really liked it, it gave good coverage but still felt quite light on the skin. I agree it was more a dewy than a matt finish though. I can’t comment on how well it lasted during the day as my sample was in oompa loompa orange so I washed it off straight after. Although I couldn’t wash it off my hand, that stuff did not budge with water or handwash, I had to get it off my hand with my make up remover.

    • Ahh that’s a shame they didn’t match the sample to your skin colour! It would have been good to have seen if you thought it lasted or not. I think it transfers quite a bit as when I touch my face it comes off on my hand. Will you be purchasing? X

      • I did think about buying it. The sample I got was just one applications worth that came free with an order, I might pop in Boots and see if the Clinique counter have a sample in my colour.

  4. Awww I’m so glad you got the product. I can’t believe you didn’t experience the lasting power. Definitely a good primer and setting powder, should sort that out for you. Thank you so much for mentioning me xxx
